Friendship Centers Raises Over $40,000 for Medical Clinic Flooring

(Sarasota, FL) – October 13, 2017 – Friendship Centers, a non-profit organization serving older adults in Southwest Florida for more than 40 years, has received a capping grant of $13,386 from the Frank E. Duckwall Foundation. This brings the total raised to $43,386, the amount needed to start removing the worn flooring materials from the medical clinic patient rooms, hallways, staff areas and waiting rooms in preparation for much-needed new flooring material throughout.

Several organizations provided funding for the project: $7,500 from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County’s Arthur T. Esslinger Memorial Fund, $13,500 from the Linnie E. Dalbeck Foundation, $5,000 from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s Community Health Endowment Fund and a small contribution from Friendship Centers’ building fund.

“The flooring in all the clinic areas is nearing the end of its useful life,” said Diane Willman, Director of Friendship Center Clinic Operations in Sarasota. “We currently have areas with older carpeting, and the new vinyl plank flooring material will offer an easier to clean surface, a more cohesive appearance and a safer environment for our patients.”

In 2016, Friendship Centers Health Clinics provided more than 15,000 patient visits in Sarasota, Lee and Collier Counties. The clinics provide care for those over 50 who are uninsured or underinsured and are in need of medical or dental care. Over 70% of the patients served are uninsured and pay on a sliding scale. For those who cannot pay, services can often be subsidized through the Centers’ “Friend in Need” patient fund.
