UPC was incorporated October of 1977 to meet the needs of exceptional adults in the community with developmental disabilities including Down syndrome, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, prader willi syndrome, epilepsy, failure to thrive and other risk factors, etc. The majority of our consumers have multiple disabilities.
Just as the general population of Sarasota and Manatee counties has increased dramatically since that time, so has the population of disabled adults. UCP is constantly working to identify the needs of the large and diverse section of our population as we continue to expand both the number of consumers served and the variety of programs we offer so each person may experience a fuller life with greater autonomy and less dependence and assistance on their families or the community.
UCP has two residential facilities offering residential habilitation, daily living skills, and transportation.
