Charter Health Plan

The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with Sarasota Memorial Health Care System's Charter Health Plan to provide affordable health insurance to the thousands of members of working families in and around Sarasota who currently lack coverage.

Launched in 2004 by Sarasota Memorial, the Charter Plan is an affordable insurance program designed for Sarasota County small businesses that have been previously unable to provide this vital benefit to their employees. The new Charter Plan-The Greater Sarasota Chamber strategic alliance allows Chamber members to receive a 10 percent discount on premium rates, making the insurance - already 30 percent more affordable than other programs - an extremely attractive option for Chamber businesses to offer major medical coverage to their workforces. On average, a Chamber member employer may save anywhere from $500 to $3,500 a year on health insurance because of the plan's low costs.

To be eligible for the Charter Plan, small business owners in and around Sarasota County must have two or more employees and have not provided health insurance coverage to employees for the six months preceding their application. This also applies to those businesses that use a professional employer organization (PEO).

The Charter Plan is self-supporting, financed through the premiums paid by plan members. Sarasota County Public Hospital Board tax dollars are not used to support the program. Small business owners interested in the Charter Health Plan may call the Sarasota Memorial Health Line at 917-8500 or visit online here. (link to site)
